Essay [Banning Private Cars Into City Centers]

In recent years, every big city in the world, with a growing of economics has largely developed number of buildings such as apartments, offices and malls in the designated areas. Meanwhile, a lot of cars and motorcycles are coming down to reach those facilities in the central of city everyday. Gradually, the problem of traffic jam is starting to become obvious and serious. Local government has implemented several regulations to stop increasing of using private vehicles, in fact, it does not help apparently.

Limiting cars and other private transportations enter the city may lead the decreasing of air pollution problem. Most of producing hazardous gasses in the air are dominated by private cars and motorcycles. Less using them on the road will reduce the risks of air pollution. More advantage by restricting private vehicles in city centers is giving solution for traffic jam problem. Too many cars on the street causes the congestion in the central city is decreasing dramatically. It is difficult to drive around the city because no adequate space for cars to ride. Moreover, the people will take more time heading their destinations.

The drawbacks will appear if government do not give alternative ways following the regulations of banning private cars into the city - people will flout the rules and try to find another loophole. For example, citizen in Jakarta still use their own cars because the number of Trans Jakarta, one of public transportation in the city, do not meet their expectation. By this I mean people are still reluctant to benefit that facilities because the routes of busway, another name of Trans Jakarta, do not accommodate all destinations. More instance, the 3 in 1 ordinance in Jakarta does not work properly because the owner of cars hire people on the street who need money to meet the minimum requirement of three people in one car.

It is clear that banning private cars in the city centers delivers many advantages. As consequences, government should supply good alternative facilities for citizen in order to direct them choosing public transportations instead.
